Spring Concert

Location: Xavier High School Fine Arts Theater

May 8 is V.E. (Victory in Europe) Day, the day Germany surrendered to the Allies bringing an end to the war in Europe. Our program will feature music either composed during the war or later in tribute to those who served. Suite Francaise by Darius Mihaud and Alfred Reed’s Russian Christmas Music were both composed in 1944 during the middle of the war. Red Tails by Ayatey Shabazz honors the African-American pilots of the Tuskegee Airmen fighter group in Europe, so it's only fitting we pair that with 8th Air Force in Europe Prologue and Main Theme by Maury Laws. Our marches for the evening were both composed during the war, Army of the Nile by Kenneth Alford and March of the Belgian Parachutists by Pierre Leemans.
