
About the Band
Founded in 1985, the Fox Valley Concert Band provides a high-level rehearsal and performance experience for dedicated community musicians and talented students. We perform four concerts a year. Visit our History page to learn more about the Fox Valley Concert Band.

Meet the Conductor

Marc Sackman is Professor of Music and Director of Bands at UWO-Fox Cities. Prior to joining the UWO-Fox Cities faculty, he served as conductor of the Rutgers Alumni Wind Symphony, Director of Bands at Alfred University in Alfred, NY and Central Oregon Community College in Bend, OR.

He holds a B.A. in History from Rutgers College and continued his musical studies as a Flute Performance major at the University of Illinois. He then studied in Paris with members of the Orchestre de Paris, and in Munich with Hermann Klemeyer. He was Solo Flutist of the Bavarian State Opera while pursuing a successful freelance career. When Dr. Sackman returned to the U.S. he studied at The Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he earned his Master's and Doctorate in Flute Performance. He has performed in a wide range of musical ensembles and settings, from the Opera at Ruters and Rutgers Summerfest Orchestra to chamber music to jazz and Irish folk music.

Dr. Sackman has studied conducting under Scott Whitener, Harry Begian, Robert Reynolds, and Mallory Thompson. In addition to his UWO faculty position, he serves as Instructor of Flute at Ripon College and as director with the Fox Valley Flute Choir, where he plays flute, piccolo and alto flute. Dr. Sackman also plays flute with the Appleton City Band, VENTO Winds, and the Wisconsin Symphonic Winds.
